Solent Recovery College

Whether you use mental health services in Portsmouth or support someone who does, the College can offer you the opportunity to learn about recovery through a unique range of courses and short sessions.

Taught in a classroom setting, students can learn practical skills for living with on-going symptoms and learn how to get the best from mental health services in a safe and confidential space.

All of our sessions are designed in partnership between Solent Mind’s Peer Trainers and staff from Solent NHS Trust, allowing those with lived experience of a mental health issue to share their experiences and skills side by side with mental health professionals.

Our courses aren’t therapy; they’re an opportunity to learn new skills in an educational environment. They can help you become an expert in managing your mental health and empower you to take control of your recovery journey.

First Steps
to Recovery

A series of seven mini lectures that cover the essential building blocks for mental health recovery.


A session that dispels common misconceptions and discusses the realities of living with depression, as well as treatment options and local support.

with Anxiety

A three-part programme which provides insights into anxiety and helps you develop coping strategies for living well.

Developing a
Peer Support

Would you like to use your own lived experience of a mental health problem to help others? We’ll give you some practical advice and guidance for getting started.

for Work

Essential information and support from those looking to return to work, including practical advice on applying for jobs, preparing for interviews and disclosing your medical history.

Substance Use
and Mental Health

A session that examines important links, helps you recognise problems and provides information on local support.


A practical four part programme which gives you simple practices and skills to apply to your daily routine.
