Support for Professionals

We recognise that professionals who work with children and young people might come across self-harming behaviour.

Our training and resources are designed to upskill staff and build a culture of understanding and proactive support. Through a collaborative approach, we work with organisations and communities that work with families and young people from all backgrounds, including those who are not in education.

What We Offer

The experienced Solent Mind training team will be offering live online training to equip you with the knowledge, skills and tools to support young people you work with who may self-harm.

Training will be accompanied by a toolkit of resources to use in your work.

If you have any concerns about a child or young person you can contact MASH (Multi agency safeguarding hub).

New sessions: Reflective Practice.

Solent Mind are facilitating two reflective practice sessions, these will be a chance to share your knowledge and experience about what’s been helpful in supporting children and young people that experience self-harm and learn from others.

This is not a training session; it will be a guided discussion with opportunity for group conversation and reflection.

Who the sessions are for?

  • Education Providers – secondary school age children and young people (11 years and over), 6th form and further education.
  • Charities working directly with children and young people in this age range.

Self harm training sessions for Education Providers - secondary school age children and young people (11 years and over), 6th form and further education. And charities working directly with children and young people in this age range.

Self harm training session overview

This session aims to improve confidence and reduce fear around the topic of self-harm for those who work with children and young people. We’ll cover the basics of what self-harm is and what it isn’t, to enable understanding and awareness. We’ll also suggest strategies, resources and signposting to support those self-harming, and the people around them.

Each session runs for one hour and will be delivered either in person or remotely via zoom. After the session you will receive a link to a recorded version of the session for you to watch again at another time.

During these sessions we will reference a range of free resources  including signposting to other organisations offering further support.

As our online sessions have proved more popular than in person, we have swapped all our training sessions to online to make them accessible to more people.
