Our people – employee stories
Senior Wellbeing Adviser
In 2013, after a career break to look after my two young children, I spent a period of time considering my future employment options. With some previous experience in community groups working alongside people with various mental health issues, I wanted to explore whether this could be a realistic vocation for me.
Searching the Solent Mind website I made an application to the Winchester Wellbeing Service for a Volunteer Advisor role. I then spent the next 10 months supporting various group at the Wellbeing Centre and using my art and graphic design experience to run Art Courses.
In July 2014, I successfully applied for an advertised role as Senior Wellbeing Advisor for the New Forest Wellbeing service and now work in Hythe and New Milton centres facilitating various groups and courses including Art and Digital Photography.
Pete Harrison – Senior Wellbeing Adviser
Heads UP Coordinator / Peer Support Coordinator
I called Solent Mind and asked whether there was a possibility of any volunteering opportunities. There was. Solent Mind is an exceptional charity helping others with mental health problems just like me. I felt that I could achieve what I wanted in life and had a new confidence and self belief. I volunteered for 2 years running my own project ‘Heads UP’, which has given me so much passion and determination to help others. I now am employed full time for the charity running 2 successful projects. Solent Mind really did make my dreams a reality. I am indebted to Solent Mind for everything they have done for me. I am truly grateful and will continue my campaign for more awareness and anti stigma work around mental health to young people within our area.
