Role Description: Mayfield Trustee Role Description
There is no financial remuneration. Being a trustee is a voluntary position, although legitimate travel expenses may be claimed.
One in four of us will suffer from a mental health problem at some time in our lives. Do you want to use your skills and experience to play a leading role in a social enterprise which provides real, practical help?
Mayfield Nurseries is a Southampton based working nursery and horticultural social enterprise for people with lived experience of mental health issues.
We are a part of Solent Mind, a leading mental health charity across Hampshire. Since our beginnings in 2009, every penny we raise from the sale of our award winning plants is ploughed back into our range of horticultural groups, workshops and activities that support those living with mental health issues and dementia in our community.
Our vision is to:
- Improve peoples’ mental health and physical wellbeing through horticulture
- Build peoples’ confidence and self-esteem
- Help people to connect with others and reduce isolation and loneliness
- Teach new skills
- Increase opportunities available for volunteering and skilled work.
Mayfield Nurseries seeks to have among its Trustees a range of experience and expertise, including one or more of the following:
- Fundraising and marketing
- Public Relations
- Retail Horticulture
- Media and Communications
- Digital Marketing
If you feel you have a contribution to make as a Trustee / Director, particularly if you have expertise in any of the above areas or mental health policy/practice and can demonstrate a commitment to Solent Mind and its aims and values, we would be delighted to hear from you.
The role of the Board is to govern the charity; setting policy, strategy and ensuring exemplary governance and fiscal control. The day to day management of Mayfield Nurseries is delegated to a Chief Executive and a small team of senior managers.
