Making Portsmouth a Dementia Friendly City
The Remind Dementia Service is working to make Portsmouth a Dementia Friendly City. Remind is leading and hosting quarterly Dementia Action Alliance (DAA) meetings. The aim has been to come together and agree how best challenges being faced in our communities can be turn into opportunities to enable and empower people living with dementia to continue to live well independently in their own homes if possible. In the past four years DAA members have been working together to help to build a dementia friendly city where people living with dementia feel well supported and happy to live well with the condition. Members of the DAA include individuals with an interest in dementia or representing national or local organisation such as charities, Community Fire Services, Retail Outlets, Care Homes, Solicitors, theatres, Solent NHS Trust, GP Surgeries, Day centres, University, Portsmouth City Council etc.
Our team is also delivering free Dementia Friends Information sessions to local organisations such as GP surgeries, libraries, university, banks, care homes, community groups, shops to help people to understand what it’s like to live with dementia and the actions they can take.
