Solent Mind staff volunteered this weekend at Boom Town, a yearly music festival held on the outskirts of Winchester. Music festivals can be a fantastic experience, but can also be a time when people are at risk through drug and alcohol misuse. It’s important people know the facts so they can stay safe and reduce harm caused by substances. Festivals can also be a place where mental health problems can become exacerbated.
Chill Welfare kindly asked Solent Mind staff to volunteer at Boomtown festival over the weekend to provide support and advice and help people in crisis situations.
Victoria Hall, Solent Mind staff member had this to say about volunteering: ‘It was hard work and really fulfilling, reaching people we wouldn’t normally come into contact with and giving them support. I’d give up my weekend again to do another one!’
