Many local MPs from the Solent area attended a special parliamentary event about mental health hosted by Mind.
About the event
Solent Mind’s CEO Richard Barritt, was accompanied by Nathan Clifford (pictured), a Solent Mind Peer Support Worker.
Nathan said: ‘Talking about mental health is a passion, and something that I feel very strongly about. I have had a long and very hard road to be at the point where I am now, so to be in the position to share my experience in a positive way is a real honour for me.’
Split into regional tables, local Minds and their guests spent two hours talking about their experiences, good and bad, to MPs from all of the main political parties.
The conversations helped politicians learn more about the work of the Mind network and about a range of topics including access to treatment and quality of care.
Local MP Suella Fernandes later tweeted about the event: ‘Well done to you all for raising awareness, keep up the good work.’
Gloria De Piero, Shadow Minister for Women and Equalities, sponsored the event and said she promised to help raise the profile of mental health in Parliament.
