Welcome Stores having a Fun(d) day for Solent Mind

Welcome Stores raised over £2,500 with Active Minutes challenge week culminating in an Extravaganza on Friday 29th April 2022.

At the end of April, The Welcome Store Family business owned by Richard and Karen Dance completed an Active Minutes Challenge week which ended on Friday 29th with an Active Minutes Extravaganza in support of Solent Mind.

On the culmination of the week the Welcome Team were joined by our Corporate Liason Officer Jo Silsbury and Rob Mangles from Gym Tin fitness and health, where they visited all of their 6 stores completing a 30-minute workout with the store teams, ran raffle events, undertook mental puzzle challenges and cycled like crazy on cycle machines in store for the day.

Customer and colleagues of the team managed to complete over 16,000 active minutes and raised so far over £2,500 for Solent Mind. Having already donated £4,500 last year, they are on target to reach their £10,000 target within 2 years.

Jo Silsbury, Solent Mind Corporate Fundraiser, said: "it's been fantastic to be back fundraising in person with Welcome Stores and The Gym Tin. Every store put in a huge effort to raise awareness and funds for Solent Mind and we are so grateful for their support. Working with local businesses helps us provide mental health advice and support to more and more people every year"

In addition to having a fun time by all colleagues and customers raising money, Welcome Stores also helped raise awareness of how mental and physical exercise can help improve everyone's mental health.

"It's amazing how a little drop of good will can ricochet in to a ripple of generosity and humility within a community. After 2 years of lockdown it’s so beautiful to see people coming together, celebrating and exercising together. Well done to Welcome Stores pioneering this event and raising so much money for Solent Mind. I am proud to work with you all," Rob Mangles, The Gym Tin.

Richard summarised the day: “Solent Mind, our colleagues and customers have really benefitted from the Active Minutes initiative and it has been a great success for all!"
