Our fantastic Portsmouth Wellbeing Centre team provided some added sparkle to the city’s Pride event earlier this month by offering glitter face painting and temporary tattoos to eventgoers along with mental health support resources and information.
Portsmouth Pride is an annual event that’s held every summer, and Solent Mind’s Portsmouth team were keen to show their support for the popular LGBTQ+ occasion.
Setting up a stall on Southsea seafront, the Peer Support team spent the day chatting to people about the charity’s services across the region, and offering advice where needed. Adding some extra ‘dazzle’ to the proceedings, the team also provided face painting and temporary tattoos in return for a donation, raising nearly £200 for Solent Mind.
Ellie Coleman, Peer Support and Wellbeing Team Leader at our Portsmouth Centre, was there on the day, and said that Pride is a beautiful celebration of inclusion, which was a pleasure to be a part of.
She said: "It was a fantastic day, and we were delighted to be involved in this special event for our wonderful LGBTQ+ community. It was great to see so many people wanting their faces glittered in aid of Solent Mind, and for us, it was the ideal way to showcase the mental health support we are providing in the local area.
“Thanks to everyone who donated. This will go straight back into supporting our community and will go towards the resources needed for our upcoming LGBTQIA+ group which will be launching in Portsmouth. We are very grateful."
Portsmouth Pride is passionate about making the city one of the most inclusive and diverse locations for members of the LGBTQ+ community to live, work or study.
