Our annual quiz night this month was a fabulous success. Bringing together many of our supporters for a fantastic evening of entertainment, the event raised an incredible £4,140 for our charity.
Hosted by the wonderful Cherry Liquor at The Concorde Club in Eastleigh, and sponsored by Morgan Sindall Construction & Infrastructure, 26 teams battled it out through 5 rounds of questions to be named ‘Solent Mind’s quiz champion 2024’. After a final tie-breaker situation, Portsmouth-based finance company, Liquid Friday, came out on top and bagged the coveted winner’s trophy.
Drag queen Cherry’s incredible energy and comedy-timing ensured everyone on the night had a fun-filled evening of laughter and celebration. And, with such a remarkable amount raised for Solent Mind, the evening will also go towards supporting mental health in our communities.
Quiz winners, Liquid Friday, were overjoyed with their victory, and Chief Operating Officer, Joe Taffurelli, said: “We had no idea how well we’d done so to hear we’d scored top points, along with another team, was brilliant! I’m just glad we clinched that tie-breaker question! It’s been a fantastic evening for an amazing cause, and our trophy will be taking pride of place in our office in Portsmouth.”
Among the other teams taking part were developers, Barratt David Wilson Homes Southampton, and air traffic control services provider, NATS. Both companies are already doing a lot to support Solent Mind, including offering up their employees to take on volunteering tasks across the organisation.
Rebecca Edwards, Barratt David Wilson Homes Marketing Executive, was there on the night and said: “We’ve been supporting Solent Mind for several years, so we were really keen to come along tonight. We’re so glad we did. It’s been so much fun!”
Bethany Rippingale, HR Talent Manager at NATS, said: “This is the first time we’ve been to one of Solent Mind’s quiz evenings. We’ve really enjoyed ourselves, and it’s great to know we’re all raising money for such an amazing cause.”
Sally Arscott, CEO, said: “Thank you to everyone who’s joined us today, to our sponsors, Morgan Sindall, and to Cherry for putting on a great show. It has been a fantastic evening, and we are hugely grateful.
“The money raised will mean our services can continue to support people across the region and promote positive mental wellbeing.”
Susan Dee, Social Value Manager at Morgan Sindall, said: “We are delighted to have had the opportunity to sponsor this special fundraising event. Partnering with Solent Mind aligns with our values of working with our communities, and the work Solent Mind is doing to support mental health in the local area is so important, particularly within our own industry.”
Solent Mind provides a wide range of mental health services across Hampshire, Southampton and Portsmouth. Its purpose is to support everyone to develop positive mental wellbeing, to live well and to thrive.
