The team of volunteers giving up their time for Solent Mind’s Remind dementia service, has been shortlisted for a Portsmouth Inspiring Volunteer Award.

The annual awards, organised by Together in Hive Portsmouth and Pompey in the Community, recognise the impact that volunteers have in the city, and the difference they are making for organisations and charities in the community. The Remind volunteers have been shortlisted in the ‘Team of Volunteers’ category.

Solent Mind’s Remind service is a vital community resource that provides tailored support for individuals affected by dementia. Collette Abery, Dementia Activities Facilitator, said the commitment, compassion and professionalism demonstrated by their 8-strong team of volunteers, has a profound impact on the people it supports.

She said: “Our team of passionate and selfless volunteers contribute their time, energy, and empathy to ensure that every client receives personalised care and connection.

“In a field where time, patience, and presence are among the most valuable offerings, the volunteers consistently deliver these gifts without expectation of reward. They embody the essence of community spirit and social responsibility. I’m pleased they can have this recognition for the fantastic work they are doing.”

Simon Eddy is one of the Remind volunteers. He added: “The service that Remind provides for people with dementia is truly inspirational, and it’s wonderful to be a part of that. To hear that the support we’re offering as volunteers has been acknowledged in this awards shortlist, is a real honour. We can’t wait for the awards evening later in the year.”

The awards ceremony will take place on Tuesday 30 September at Kings Theatre, Portsmouth. As well as the awards presentation, the evening will celebrate the contribution that all Portsmouth’s volunteers are making every day.
