As part of Mental Health Awareness Week, on Thursday 16th May, Solent Mind showcased its new Wellbeing Centre, located in the heart of the City centre. Regardless of the inclement weather, the centre staff welcomed community partners, existing service users and members of the public throughout the day, with over 40 visitors coming through the doors.
Solent Mind’s CEO Sally Arscott was one of the first visitors through the doors and was delighted to see the staff in action, meeting and supporting service users who were all keen to discover more about the services and the centre’s future plans for wellbeing in Portsmouth. Sally enthused: “With its new, more central position on Arundel Street, the Wellbeing Centre is set to be a real hub of the community, giving access to mental health services to even more Portsmouth residents. As we prepare for our organisational strategy launch in June, we have been listening to service users to ensure that our services can best meet their needs, both now and in the future. We understand the pressures impacting on our diverse communities with the cost of living crisis and increased NHS waiting lists all affecting access to support, so it’s great to see our new centre open and so many people here today.”
Previously located in the PositiveMinds building on Melbourne Place, Solent Mind’s new Wellbeing Centre located in the heart of Portsmouth, shows that the charity is serious in its mission to make better mental health more accessible for so many more people in our community.
As well as the peer support services, one-to-one and group sessions delivered at their Portsmouth Wellbeing Centre, Solent Mind offers a range of other support including; Anchoring Minds for Royal Navy and Marines families in the area; Remind for families affected by dementia in Portsmouth; Solent Recovery College which offers courses to help people manage their own mental health and employment support to help people living with mental health conditions secure and stay in employment.
You can now find the Portsmouth Wellbeing Centre on 38 Arundel Street, Portsmouth, PO1 1NL, so why not pop in for a cup of tea and say “hello” next time you’re passing?
