Despite campaigning to stop the cuts, Hampshire County Council have now approved part of the £132 million budget cuts across the county.
Disappointedly, this includes the loss of £656,000 in funding to mental health services delivered at 5 our wellbeing centres across the region, along with those looked after by Andover Mind and Havant and East Hampshire Mind.
Responding to the news, CEO Sally Arscott, said: “To hear about these funding cuts at a time when the number of people experiencing a mental health issue is on the rise, is disappointing.
“One in six people have a common mental health problem such as depression and anxiety at any one time. And, with the rising costs of living, mental health needs are increasing.
“These cuts will mean our centres will not be able to continue providing their current level of one-to-one provision, and people with complex needs may not get the level of help they need.
“We will continue to support individuals who need it across the region, and the people we support will always be at the very heart of our plans.”
Solent Mind is now working with Hampshire County Council, and its teams in the wellbeing centres to prepare and implement the changes required to respond to the reduction in funding. Solent Mind is trying to minimise the impact on the local community who use our services and support our staff.
