A group of community golfers in the region have raised a staggering £6,490 for Solent Mind at their annual charity golf day.

The Surrey & Hants Golf Buddies (SHGB) holds the fundraising event every year in memory of one of its members, Jordan Wade, who lost his battle with mental health at just 30-years-old.

The memorial golf day is hosted every July at Pine Ridge Golf Club in Surrey, where Jordan is laid to rest. This year, once again, the sporting group chose to raise money for Solent Mind.

Steve Tiley, the SHGB’s founder, said: “In the 7 years since I started this community group, it has grown considerably and now has more than 1,200 members.

“One of the most notable events on the group's calendar is our Jordan Wade Memorial golf day. Jordan’s name lives on through our wonderful group, and his loss has inspired a determination to help others. We want to ensure our community has the confidence to talk, connect with like-minded golfers, and find their happy place again.

“For many of us, this annual fundraising day serves as a reset button, allowing us to remember the good times and be equally reminded that the dark days are temporary.

“Solent Mind is supporting mental health in the region, which is exceptionally important to all of us here. It’s been a real pleasure to hand over the money we’ve raised today.”

Steve added: “If anyone is suffering, fancies a round of golf, or would like to make new friends, please get in contact with us at SHGB.”

To date, SHGB has raised more than £20,000 for Solent Mind.

The Surrey & Hants Golf Buddies was founded in 2017 by Steve Tiley after he found himself seeking companionship on the golf course following a 17-year hiatus from the game after the passing of his father, who was also an avid golfer.
