Your Wellbeing and Coronavirus
Message from Kevin Gardner, CEO, Solent Mind
You will all be aware of the serious and growing public concerns about the spread of coronavirus. The situation is unprecedented in the modern day and has been declared a global pandemic by the World Health Organisation. Internationally, we are seeing a variety of approaches being taken to containment and, through our own news media in the UK, different views being expressed as to the safest course of action to take. Alongside the clear risks to our personal health, these factors combine to cause confusion and anxiety for the wellbeing of ourselves and, in particular, vulnerable people within our own friendship and family circles.
Solent Mind’s position has been, and will remain, that we follow the Government’s advice based on scientific evidence and expert opinion. Our immediate priority in managing the situation has been to adapt our services to ensure the continuation of support, while enabling our staff to work from home wherever possible. This is in line with Government advice to restrict social contact and keep people safe. In most cases, this means the reduction of face to face and group meetings and replacement with online and telephone support. You can find out more about these arrangements, service by service, and how you can go about accessing our support, on our Update page. You will also find a growing set of links, advice, and other resources to help you manage your health and wellbeing through these very challenging times. We will be adding further tips and materials in the days and weeks ahead, so please make sure you check back from time to time to see what’s new.
As the situation evolves, the Government advice is being updated on a daily basis, and so our own approach will be regularly reviewed. We will undoubtedly be making further changes, and exploring new and innovative ways that we can maintain our support to you. We will keep you informed as the situation develops.
Please remember that some of our workforce may also be feeling anxious about the risks from the virus, so your patience and understanding will be appreciated as we introduce changes to our services.
I can assure you that I and every member of the Solent Mind team are 100% committed to carrying on providing the best mental health and wellbeing support that we can for you in the tough times ahead.
Thanks for bearing with us. Keep well, look after yourselves and others, and keep washing those hands.
CEO, Solent Mind
