What is Mayfield Nurseries? This is our flagship horticultural therapy project situated in Weston, Southampton. We are a working Nursery open to the public for the sale of plants, Monday to Friday 10.00am - 3.00pm. Around 50 members with severe and enduring mental health problems attend the Nursery and assist in all the jobs which need to be done to keep us up and running.
Mayfield is fast becoming a thriving Nursery. We rely on sales for part of our funding and our plants are of a consistently high quality and competitively priced.
We are situated in a pleasant walled garden inside Mayfield Park and have 4 large glasshouses, polytunnels and a vegetable patch. As well as general Nursery work members can take part in woodwork, grounds maintenance work, outside sales and dealing with customers.
Members benefit from undertaking meaningful activity in relaxed, supportive surroundings. Attendance offers them the opportunity to develop social contacts, improve or develop horticultural skills and experience a work - orientated environment.
Mayfield is also a social enterprise, operating as a subsidiary company of Solent Mind. This exciting development which happened in April 2009 allows Mayfield to operate its business more efficiently and opens up a wide range of opportunities for development into the future.
