About us

Solent Mind began life in 1962. We are affiliated to Mind, the national mental health charity.

We believe that people with mental health problems are too often denied the right to participate in society and lead valued lives. We campaign against the discrimination and stigma still faced. We also promote positive approaches to mental health, working in partnership with health and social care agencies who share our values.

Solent Mind runs a range of community mental health services. We support people at home, in social clubs and at work. We provide advice, information and advocacy. Most of our services are funded by Social Services and the Health Service, but we also raise money independently to develop other innovative services.

The experience of having used mental health services is valued throughout the organisation, and this shows in the make up of the trustees, staff and volunteers. This is an organisation in which service users, mental health professionals and others work alongside each other to plan and deliver high quality mental health services.
