Volunteer Advocates

Commitment Required: Regular weekly commitment - Minimum of 2 hours per week

Solent Mind provides Hampshire and Southampton’s specialist mental health advocacy service. This role is to provide independent community advocacy for individuals receiving mental health services. 

Volunteer Community Advocates work with individuals who are accessing mental health services to ensure that they have fair access to services and treatment.  The community advocate will work 1:1 with individuals to ensure that they are able to contribute and have control over decisions that affect them.

As a Community Advocate you will help people obtain the information they require about issues affecting their lives such as their legal rights, information about mental health services, medication, care plans and benefits entitlement.

You will receive comprehensive training in advocacy;  ongoing support and supervision;  access to Solent Minds training programme and any advocacy specific training. 

You will be part of a team of volunteers managed by a volunteer coordinator and will meet regularly to discuss cases and share experiences.
