Richard's October Blog

I had great fun last Friday (10 October) taking part in the graduation ceremony at Southampton University for our 2014 cohort of Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners at italk. Congratulations to this year’s 14 graduates, each receiving a mortar board, scroll, and some rather moving tributes from their peers. Included in the entertainment was a care planning rap, inflicted earlier in the year on their unsuspecting tutors and reproduced on Friday to huge acclaim. How about a WRAP rap next year?

Thanks to Breeze FM and Jack FM for highlighting everything else that we were doing on or about World Mental Health Day. If you were with us at the Discovery Centre in Gosport, our coffee morning at Eastleigh Wellbeing Centre, or at St James Hospital in Portsmouth hearing about Employment Support, I hope you discovered something you didn’t know before about Solent Mind. If you didn’t make it – or even if you did and want to see and hear more - come and join us at Ferneham Hall in Fareham 2-4pm on 22 October for our Building Resilience event, showcasing the breadth of our work.

And huge appreciation for Carolyn Barber and team for devising and arranging the Hampshire Festival of the Mind in the seven days up to and including World Mental Health Day. I was in Portsmouth on Day One taking joining a Question Time panel alongside politicians and local mental health experts. Needless to say it was the audience - polite but sceptical – who knew most about the state of local mental health services.
