Independent Mental Capacity Advocacy

The Mental Capacity Act 2005 sets out a statutory duty to assist vulnerable people who lack the mental capacity to make their own decisions about serious medical treatment and changes of accommodation. This is known as Independent Mental Capacity Advocacy (IMCA). The service also includes adult protection cases and care reviews.

We provide the IMCA service in Hampshire and Southampton to people who lack the capacity to make their own decisions, as defined by the Act, and have no family or friends to assist them.

IMCA is a flexible service, operating to meet the needs of the individual.
