One in four of us will suffer from a mental health problem at some time in our lives.

We are currently recruiting for a Chair of Board of Trustees who has the desire and drive to use their skills and experience to play a leading role in an organisation which provides real, practical help.

Solent Mind is a local mental health charity providing services to 12,000 people across Hampshire and the Solent area.  We support people to achieve better wellbeing through a range of services delivered by more than 200 staff and volunteers. Affiliated to (but independent of) Mind, the national association for mental health, we are also a campaigning charity and focus attention on the discrimination that people with mental health problems still face.  Our current revenue is £6 million.

The Charity is now seeking someone with board level/leadership experience to succeed the current Chair who has completed their term of office.

The role of the Chair is to lead the Board in its role as governing the charity; setting policy, strategy and ensuring exemplary governance and fiscal control.  The day to day management of Solent Mind is delegated to a Chief Executive and a small team of senior managers.

The board has three sub committees and the committee Chairs work with the Chair of the Board to oversee the work of the charity. Time commitment required is approximately one day per week, including 6 board meetings a year and attendance at various committee meetings.
